Mónica Gutiérrez Serna believes ‘children can understand any artistic proposal thanks to intuition. The more varied and richer images they encounter, the more art can help them turn into critical and creative adults’. Mónica Gutiérrez Serna was born in México in 1967 and throughout her career she has published over thirty books for readers of all ages.
Coherence, creative license, format, material, typography…and of course, idea and narration are pivotal aspects of Mónica Gutiérrez Serna’s work. Her career, including a doctorate at Bellas Artes and dedicated to illustration since the year 2000, is different because it is not fixed towards a single age group.
“My aim is to transmit through images the emotions evoked in me by the text. I find it difficult, and I don’t know if I have ever managed it, but it is my dream”, she says. Below is an interview she gave Canal Lector
